The building sits on a higher level from the road in a residential area popular as Tenga Mohallah. Beyond the road, it faces vast open grounds. |

| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | The building was constructed by Mohammad Anwar Hajjam who was a pathwari. Built about 38 years ago, this structure now belongs to his sons Ghulam Mohammad Mohammad Shafi the former is a music artist and the latter is unemployed. |

The town of Pampore has remained a major centre of trade, culture and politics. Also known as land of red gold for its open down clayey karewa soil, home to saffron cultivation for centuries. Saffron cultivation was and still is the prime occupation of the town. The town has given two great Kashmiri poetesses to the valley namely Lala Ded and Habba Khatoon and many other spiritual personalities and hermits. Pampores location at Srinagars doorstep made it witness various political events. This explains the sociological diversity of the town and the probable locale for the first Gandhian organization in the valley of Khadi Ashram. |

Approached through the compound entrance from the north, this eastern front fa ade of the building is of three floors.. The front fa ade is emphasized by a wooden dub that runs all along the face of the second floor. It s planning is of a typical Kashmiri house with a backside staircase and a front lobby with rooms on either side. The ground and first floors have two rooms each while the second floor also has a hall. The pitched roof has a gable which constitutes the attics space. |

The principal materials used in the construction of the building are stone, brick and wood, with mud mortar . However, cement pointing has been done on the stone masonry infill on the ground floor. The structure is of complete brick masonry with an exception of the ground floor having the stone masonry infill. Simple rectangular windows are found in all floors. The structural system of the building is load bearing with timber lacing at each floor. Timber bands have been provided at all floor levels which act as a major earthquake resistant feature. The traditional pitched roof is covered with CGI sheets and is bordered with an eaves board. The gable of the roof having the attic space is of dhajji dewari. |
