| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | The building was constructed by Mohammad Abdullah Mir who was a saffron dealer. Built about 50 years ago, this structure now belongs to his son Asadullah Mir who runs a shop of his own. |

The town of Pampore has remained a major centre of trade, culture and politics. Also known as land of red gold for its open down clayey karewa soil, home to saffron cultivation for centuries. Saffron cultivation was and still is the prime occupation of the town. The town has given two great Kashmiri poetesses to the valley namely Lala Ded and Habba Khatoon and many other spiritual personalities and hermits. Pampores location at Srinagars doorstep made it witness various political events. This explains the sociological diversity of the town and the probable locale for the first Gandhian organization in the valley of Khadi Ashram. |

Approached through the compound entrance from the north, this southern front fa ade of the building is of three floors. Unlike other residences in Pampore, the main entrance door is without a porch but is sheltered under a projecting wooden dub that runs all along the face of the second floor. Its planning is of a typical Kashmiri house with a backside staircase and a front lobby with rooms on either side. The ground and first floors have four and three rooms respectively. The second floor also has four rooms. Also the plinth of the structure seems have been lowered by filling up of the cemented compound. |

The principal materials used in the construction of the building are stone, brick and wood, with mud mortar . However, cement plastering has been done on the ground floor brick masonry piers. Simple rectangular windows are found on each floor. The structural system of the building is load bearing. Timber bands have been provided at all floor levels which act as a major earthquake resistant feature. The wooden dub is a traditional element that runs all along the fa ade and has glass paned windows. The attic gable is of dhajji dewari and an eaves board borders the traditional pitched roof covered with CGI sheets. |
