| Topographical Description / स्थलाकृतिक विवरण | Situated by the Jhelum riverside, the building dominates the skyline of Kadlabal in Pampore. The lofty building lies on the east bank and is about 150 m north from the Kadlabal bridge. At an inclination, the structure has access through the lanes as well as the river. |

The town of Pampore has remained a major centre of trade, culture and politics. Also known as land of red gold for its open down clayey karewa soil, home to saffron cultivation for centuries. Saffron cultivation was and still is the prime occupation of the town. The town has given two great Kashmiri poetesses to the valley namely Lala Ded and Habba Khatoon and many other spiritual personalities and hermits. Pampores location at Srinagars doorstep made it witness various political events. This explains the sociological diversity of the town and the probable locale for the first Gandhian organization in the valley of Khadi Ashram. |

This lofty building comprises a rectangular plan with four stories going up and a basement. The compound entrance from the alley on the south approaches the east front fa ade which faces a lawn. The main entrance door is within a porch which is under the dub coming from the first, second and third floor. Its planning is of a typical Kashmiri house with a backside staircase and a front lobby with rooms on either side. The basement consists of a go-down while other floors consist of four rooms each except the topmost third floor which is used as a hall. The roof is a traditional kind. |

The principal materials used in the construction of the building are brick, stone and wood, with lime mortar . The structural system of the building is load bearing with simple rectangular glass paned windows having ventilators. The windows on the first floor of the front facade are surmounted by segmental arched masonry. Also the ventilators on the third floor have the traditional lattice jali. The traditional feature of the dub has unusual glass pane work instead of the regular timber construction. The building has been modifies internally with cement plaster and newly paneled ceilings in many rooms. The traditional pitched roof covered with CGI sheets are edged with a carved eaves board. |
