| Local / Traditional description associated with Built Heritage / Site निर्मित धरोहर / स्थल से सम्बंधित स्थानीय/ परम्परागत विवरण |
The town of Pampore has remained a major centre of trade, culture and politics. Also known as land of red gold for its open down clayey karewa soil, home to saffron cultivation for centuries. Saffron cultivation was and still is the prime occupation of the town. The town has given two great Kashmiri poetesses to the valley namely Lala Ded and Habba Khatoon and many other spiritual personalities and hermits. Pampores location at Srinagars doorstep made it witness various political events. This explains the sociological diversity of the town and the probable locale for the first Gandhian organization in the valley of Khadi Ashram. |

इमारत/संरचना/स्थल का विवरण |
Right by the main road, this impressive bungalow of two floors stands before a green private garden. From the main road on the west, the northern front facade of the building is approached. The fa ade has a tripartite colonial entrance which has stone columns strung by flat arches with enhanced keystones. Unlike other porches of Pampore s residences, this porch is recessed into the building and has an open lobby space instead of a main door. The lobby space of the porch has halls on both sides and two symmetrical staircases with a passageway through the centre. Along with the two halls, the ground floor has two rooms. The two staircases lead us to six rooms on the first floor three on either side. On the first floor a dub in the form of a bay window projects itself over the porch. The residence has two structures attached symmetrically to it on the southern side. |

The principal materials used in the construction of the building are stone, brick and wood, with lime mortar . However, cement and lime pointing can be spotted at the ground floor and the first floor respectively. The structural system of the building is load bearing on the ground floor with stone masonry used as an infill. The first floor is of dhajji dewari and is a colonial feature sitting on the roof of the ground floor. Simple rectangular glass paned windows are on both the floors. Another feature is the unusually low plinth of the structure. An eaves board borders the traditional pitched roof in the first floor covered with CGI sheets. Minimum ornamentation but colonial architectural features define the expression of the building. |
