| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | The family claims that the house is one of the oldest to be built in the Dharampur locality and its neighbouring areas. This may not be an exaggeration because the way the building has aged and its various architectural details clearly indicate that it was built in the latter half of the 19th century. Traditionally serving as forest contractors, the family has had an influential and prosperous background. |

Oriented on the east-west axis. The property is sprawling and has exceptional architectural features. The spatial layout of the property is more or less square. The entrance from the west is through an elaborate wooden gateway deedh , leading to the private courtyard. The main entrance from this courtyard is also through a small wooden porch and after passing through ancillary rooms leads onto to an internal square and uncovered courtyard. The main rooms of the house are arranged around this courtyard, in the ground as well as the first floor. The house has elaborate decorative details, both externally and internally. |

The foundation and plinth of the building are in dressed stone, laid in very little mortar. Plinth above, the building is constructed in a combination of local flat stones and rubbed, soft bricks. There are evidences in the exposed portions of first floor external wall that show that the inner core of the walls are built in stone and then laminated with a layer of glazed and moulded brick which also forms the main face of the building. A decorative wooden band, running the length of the building, separates the ground from the first floor in elevation and also neatly conceals the exposed timber joists. The most uncommon feature seen in the building is the decorative clay tiles wedge-shaped inserted in one of the external dhajji-dewari walls. There are elaborate decorative details within and outside the building like wooden brackets, carved wooden doors and iron railings and khatamband ceiling. |
