| Topographical Description / स्थलाकृतिक विवरण | The Bastion is set within the wall of the town which is on an elevation. The forested area overlooks the Naaz Nallah below. The vegetation around the site is of fairly wild quality. The site also offers spectacular views of the nearby hills. |
| History / इतिहास | |
| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | No clear evidences could be seen of the wall that probably protected the town. The Shripole gateway and this bastion are the only physical evidences that suggest that Billawar was a walled city. Billawar was founded by Raja Bhopat Pal between 16th and 17th centuries and remained the capital of the Basholi Rajas. The town was established on the elevated banks of Naaz and Bhinni Nallahs. It is believed that Billawar was one of the key states of the Duggar Desh apart from Jammu and Poonch. Billawar is also called Balaur. |
| Local / Traditional description associated with Built Heritage / Site निर्मित धरोहर / स्थल से सम्बंधित स्थानीय/ परम्परागत विवरण |
The town of Billawar seems to be surrounded by myths and legends. It is believed that it was a resting place for Pandavs during their exile. The site also overlooks an extensive open ground (Najh) which was apparently used for grinding grain by locals and is believed to be about 200 years old. |

The almost completely collapsed bastion may be part of a wall that was probably built around Billawar town. The wall is not visible, however. The bastion is constructed in stone masonry with crenellated top. |
