| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | This distinctive house in the area was built by Maj. Gen. Sardar Khajoor Singh Sambyal who is a well-known individual in the history of Samba, having contributed immensely to education in the region. He is said to have served in Skardu during Maharaja Pratap Singh s rule. According to the family, he is said to have been the ADC to King Edward VII. |

The area, particularly the neighbourhood, is also popularly called bada beda, meaning big courtyard as all the Sambyal brothers lived together in the same area but different houses. Most of the properties belong to people who had served in the British Army before independence. |

The house is located at the far end of the private lawn and is almost square in plan with a linear extension to one side. The two storey house has an in-built deodi or gateway which leads to the courtyard around which the house is arranged. The front of the house is decorated by means of brick and pebble panels with segmental arched opening, each with a projecting brick surround and decorative pilasters. The house has been extended and modified to a large extent on the rear side and this includes adding an additional floor above the first floor. |

The house is largely constructed in exposed brick masonry, where brick is also used for moulding bands etc. The ceilings are lofty and constructed in timber. Most windows are square with segmental arched lintels. The older portion which extends out has elements which are excessively ornamental architecturally. The details on wooden doors are noteworthy. |
