The town lies to the west of the spring. Water from the spring flows from the temple precinct into a water channel located in the adjoining Sher bagh. |

| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | According to Hindu legends, the spring of Anantnag is named after Ananata the serpent on which Vishnu resides. The spring has been held in great reverence by Kashmir Pandits sine early times, though the present set of structures and tanks date back to the 19th century with some even having been built or rebuilt in the 20th century. In addition to the spring of Ananta the precinct also includes Sulik nag and Mulick nag and Sonur pookur. Sulik nag is a sulphurous spring while the water of Mulik nag is said to be pure and fresh. |

The precinct comprises of a series of water tank which are fed by the various springs around which numerous buildings have been constructed. These include a Durga mandir c. 1987 , Shiv mandir, Radha temple and a ram mandir, according to sources. The site could not be visited due to security reasons. |
