The house is located on the Hazratbal road which comprises of a series of three to four adjoining houses with mixed residential and commercial usage. Many of the houses have shops on the ground floor, which continue to be used for commercial purpose. |

The Keen house, located on the main road and sandwiched between other properties, is three storey high with the ground floor consisting of a single shop and an entrance doorway. The building has a rectangular layout with the shorter side serving as its main and public-commercial face. The centrally located entrance lobby which is accessed from the main road has a shop on one side and a room on the other. This room, being on the road, has very small windows for the sake of privacy. The first floor becomes more private and has rooms on either side of the central lobby. The second floor has a single large hall and an open wooden balcony projecting from the front fa ade. |

The ground floor is constructed in exposed stone masonry load bearing walls and the upper floors are constructed in brick masonry load-bearing walls. The main and front fa ade of the building consists of a series of segmental arched window openings on the first floor. These windows start at the floor level and have carved wooden sills. The second floor is emphasized by a continuous wooden balcony. The other decorative features include elaborately carved wooden fascia at all floor levels that cover the wooden joists. The ceiling of the rooms comprises exposed wooden joist and planks. Internally the walls are mud plastered and the floors are covered with sathrun mud flooring in most of the rooms. The building is covered with a traditional pitched roof comprising CGI sheets. |
