The extensive Baba house is located on the main road and consists of four floors. The ground floor which is also its public-commercial front has a series of shops with rooms, used as storage, at the back. The access to the house is from a side alley. The layout is rectangular with the longer side facing the road and serving as the prime elevation and the shorter side consisting of a centrally located entrance lobby. The rooms are arranged around the lobby. The building is located at the end of the road and attached with series of other properties on one side. The fa ade is dominated with large rectangular windows of the same size. |

The principal materials used in the construction of the building are stone, brick kiln baked as well as sun dried and wood, with mud mortar. The structural system of the building comprises load bearing brick walls with wooden floor joists. The building facade comprises rectangular window frames within rectangular or arched masonry openings, the space in between the wooden frame and the arch again being filled in with masonry in the latter case. The second floor windows are all pointed arched. There are some window panels along the side elevation which have pinjrakari. The ceiling of the rooms comprises exposed wooden joist and planks, and in some cases plywood. Floor lines are emphasized by exposed wooden runners and floor joists Internally the walls are mud plastered and the floors are covered with sathrun mud flooring in most of the rooms. The building is covered with a traditional pitched roof comprising CGI sheets. |
