The house is located on the old Sarnal road which comprises of a series of three to four adjoining houses with mixed residential and commercial usage. Many of the houses have shops on the ground floor, which continue to be used for commercial purpose. The ground floor of the Sofi house has been rebuilt. |

The Sofi house has a rectangular plan with the shorter length, which faces the road, serving as the front fa ade. The building has three floors, of which, the ground floor comprises a traditional bakery shop and the upper two floors serving as residence. The private quarter of the building extends at the back of the shop-front. A small private garden gives access to the house which has a central entrance that leads to the staircase lobby along the longer side of the building facing the lawn . There is a room on either side of the lobby. The front fa ade of the building has two large wooden panels set within masonry piers. These wooden panels consist of a pinjrakari window of differing patterns each. The wooden facing continues up to the second floor. The second floor consists of a substantial hall. |

The principal materials used in the construction of the building are stone, brick kiln baked as well as sun dried and wood, with mud mortar. The structural system of the building comprises load bearing brick walls with wooden floor joists. The building facade comprises rectangular window frames within rectangular openings. The large pinjrakari windows contribute to the decorative feature of the building. The ceiling of the rooms comprises of exposed wooden joist and planks. Internally the walls are mud plastered and the floors are covered with sathrun mud flooring in most of the rooms. The building is covered with a traditional pitched roof comprising CGI sheets. |
