| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | The building was constructed by members of the Beg family. According to the owner, the ancestors of Beg family migrated to Anantnag from Srinagar somewhere at the end of 17th century. Members of the family served as zaildars landlowners in the Dogra durbar in the 19th century and were also involved in Kashmir s freedom struggle. |

The Beg family is one of the most prominent family of Anantnag town, who have also figured prominently in Kashmirs freedom struggle. The house served as the office and residence of Mirza Afzal Beg, a prominent freedom fighter. The erstwhile Plebiscite Front was launched from this very building. The building is owned by Mirza Ajaz Beg. |

The small, two storey building has a rectangular layout with the entrance portico located at one side of it. This The portico, which has a series of wooden columns, recesses into the building and gives way to a staircase lobby. The rooms are arranged around the lobby. The ground floor has a large room at the side of the entrance lobby which has a single bay window on the side wall. The first floor slightly projects from the building face on the front and is constructed in dhajji dewari with exposed brick infill. The building s front face is also emphasized by a central bay window located in the middle of the first floor. The whole house has been covered by ivy. |

The principal materials used in the construction of the building are stone, brick and timber. The ground floor of the building comprises load bearing stone exposed stone masonry walls and the first floor consists of timber-framed dhajji dewari walls which are in-filled with exposed brick laid in pattern . The walls are lime-pointed. The ground floor has segmental arched openings with brick surrounds and the first floor windows are rectangular and set between struts of the timber frame. The building corners only limited to the ground floor are emphasized by brick quoins which stand out strikingly against the stone walls. The ceiling of the all the rooms comprises khatamband. Internally the walls are plastered in mud and the floors are wooden planked on the first floor. The building is covered with a traditional pitched roof comprising CGI sheets. |
