| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | The building was constructed by members of the Beg family. According to the owner, the ancestors of Beg family migrated to Anantnag from Srinagar somewhere at the end of 18th century. Members of the family served as zaildars landlowners in the Dogra durbar in the 19th century.They were also involved in Kashmir s freedom movement. The house is presently owned by Dr. Mirza Ashraf Beg. |

The Beg family is one of the most prominent families of Anantnag town, who have also figured prominently in Kashmir freedom struggle. One of the sessions wherein conversion of Muslim Conference into National Conference was debated in the house, due to which the building was also known as the Mujahid Manzil (of Anantnag) according to the owner. |

The building comprises of a linear two storey structure aligned along the east-west axis. The main entrance to the building is from a small wooden porch located on the western fa ade, which leads into a series of interconnected rooms, arranged on either side of a central wall, running along the length of the house. The upper part of the building can be accessed from a wooden staircase which also out onto a small porch on the rear southern fa ade. The first floor of the building comprises a series of rooms which open out onto the wooden balcony overlooking the garden. The building also houses an attic floor which could not be accessed. The building is presently abounded. |

The principal materials used in the construction of the building are stone, brick and wood, with mud mortar. The structural system of the building comprises load bearing brick walls with wooden floor joists. Additions to the building which include the bathrooms etc. have been undertaken in dhajji dewarii. The building facade comprises rectangular window frames within segmental arched masonry openings. Floor lines are emphasized by a decorative band of brickwork, while the building corners are also detailed out in brick as quoins .The ceiling of the rooms comprises of khatamband as well as exposed wooden joist and planks. Internally the walls are mud plastered and the floors are covered with sathrun mud flooring in most of the rooms. The building is covered with a traditional pitched roof comprising CGI sheets. |
