The street stretch has numerous historic commercial-residential mix use properties going as far back as the mid or late 19th century. The area was commercially active and is amongst the oldest quarters of fast developing Anantnag. The more pronounced architectural style available in this area is vernacular with little or no influence of colonial architecture. The Reshi Bazaar Mohalla is located immediately behind Sher Bagh Mohalla. |

The enormous building consists of four floors, of which the ground floor is fully occupied by a series of large and small shops. The building is located on the main road and therefore dominates the setting to a fairly large extent. There is a slight kink at the western end of the building which indicates that the construction moulds with the street profile. There are a series of spacious rooms on the first and the second floor, while the third floor is largely left open to serve as a substantial hall for social gatherings. The whole construction is of load-bearing brick masonry walls, supported on wooden floor beams over a low stone masonry plinth. |

The main materials employed for the construction of the building are brick and timber. While the brick walls are left exposed on the outside which imparts a unique texture to the street profile , it is plastered with mud on the inside. Timber is abundantly used for the structural and decorative requirements of the building and therefore is seen in the construction of floor joists, boards and ceilings. The decorative features of the building include pijrakari or latticework windows found in great number on the external face of the building and the khatamband ceilings khatamband is a traditional building craft of Kashmir in which small units of wood are pieced together to create essentially geometric patterns for ceilings. |
