| History / इतिहास | |
| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | As the family name Rangrez suggests, they were traditionally dyers and they still continue the same trade. For that reason, the family still runs their business from the three adjoining shops in the ground floor of the property. |
| Local / Traditional description associated with Built Heritage / Site निर्मित धरोहर / स्थल से सम्बंधित स्थानीय/ परम्परागत विवरण |
The Mohalla is more popular for the presence of a natural spring (and a large garden around it) of Sher Bagh here and also owes its name to it. The spring is known for its abundant fish and water. This area is the oldest residential-commercial mix-use quarter of Anantnag. |

The main materials used for the construction of the load-bearing building are exposed bricks laid in mud-mortar, and timber for structural and decorative needs of the building. There are exceptional decorative details offered in the form of pinjrakari or latticework which is used for the ornamentation of windows. There are at least five different latticework details to be found in the building. The wooden sills of all the windows are highly carved. Each floor has a carved wooden frieze band that conceals the floor joists behind it. |
