This is one of the most important and biggest residential buildings of Thiruvaiyaru. The structure is fully plastered. The ceiling is either of the vaulted type or of the Madras terrace variety. Squat cylindrical pillars between round arches adorn the large halls which often surround a Mittam. The Palace presents an extremely confusing picture of large halls and pavilions randomly scattered. The balcony with a parapet consisting of slender pillars is a definite indication of the European influence, similar parapets have been reported from the Maratha Palace at Tiruvidaimarudur. |
