According to tradition, once an Englishman lost his eye-sight while trying to photograph the fire -walking festival in the temple. Later, on the advise of the templetrustee, he prayed to the Godess and his vision was restored. To commemorate this event the Englishman took the Utsava idol of the Goddess to Fort St. George and adorned her with silk saree and gold jewel. |

The temple located within a fairly big enclosure consists of a number of sub-shrines and a bali-peetam sacrificial altar . The mandapas are pillared. Some of the pillars are painted. The Saptamatrika sculpture is noteworthy. The pillars are of vijayanagar stylewith the pillar-brackets terminating in the inverted lotus-bud. |
