According to the tradition the temple was originally located in Sullivan Gardens. An English man named Sullivan lost his eyesight when he was watching through his binocular, the crowds at the fire-walking ceremony of the temple. His vision was restored after the construction of the temple by him. |

The temple consists of the sanctum and the mandapas. The structure is obscured by modern shops. The presiding deity is Daemarajar, in a sitting posture. The other idols in the shrine include Draupadi amman, Arjuna, Krishna and Subhadra. |
