The site is situated on the bank of the river Betwa. The soil of the area is yellowish blackish.

On the basis of the excavated remains, the site belongs to historical period. Nandaur is identify with Nandipur of Sanchi inscriptions. Apart from its situation on the ancient trade route from Kausambi to Nasik, the discovery of two rock-edicts of Asoka, about 15 km from the site, close proximity of rock - shelter and location of a few chalcolithic sites and medieval temples led to ascertain the cultural sequence of the site.

On the basis of the excavation and antiquities the following cultural sequence has been observed - Period I, Pre-Mauryan 7th to 5th Cen. BC Punch marked coins, TC Beds, Bone arrow heads, shell objects, Black and Red Ware with chalcolithic affinity, Black cotton soil in a formative stage. Period II, Mauryan 4th to 3rd Cen B.C Copper and Silver Punch marked coins, cast coins, antimony rod, Beads of semin precious stones and TC Human and animal figurines, Flash rubbers, Bone points, small mouthed pithers, basin lids etc. Black slipped ware. Period III, Sunga -Satavahan 2nd Cen.BC to 1st BD - Copper Punch marked adn cast coins. Seal of animal horn, copper signet ring. TC sealings, Pedestalled querns plain and engraved, Beads of semiprecious stone and TC. TC Bull and human figurines , Balls , GAmes Man, Antimony rod, Iron nail. Period IV, Kusana -Ksatrapa 2nd to 3rd C.AD nscribed cla sealings, Silver inscibed coin, Copper inscribed coins, PM coins, TC semiprecous stone beads. Glass, shell and TC Bangles, Painted and stemped pottery and Red polished ware. Period V, Naga -Gupta 4th CAD to 6th AD Inscribed clay sealings, Signet ring inscribed copper soins, Beads, Glass, Stone, Semiprecious stone shell and TC Bangles , Red polished ware. Period VI , muslim 7th to 18th C.AD Muslim coins. This is the excavated site. There is no tradition for the same.
