The area comes under Vindhyan range. The land nearby is undulated and soil is yellowish greyish. This town is situated on southern bank of the Rewa.

Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास
On the basis of the remains found in this area, These belong to Stone age to Maratha period. Written history starts from 8th century A.D. Near the Indargarh an inscription was found of Rastrakuta period records the king Nannap founded this city in the memory of his father Bhama and in the later period it becomes Bhanpura, but the evidence is not clear. Near the Bhanpura a large number of historical pottery was found. During the Mediaeval period, many records were found which mention it was founded in V.S 1646 by Chandravat Thakur. During the Maratha and British period, it was known as Bhanpura. In the year 1821 Conl. Tod, a British historian visited the Bhanpura and was impressed by the visit the Bhanpura and he has also mentioned about the Bhanpura in his book Annals and antiquities of Rajasthan that this town is fortified from all the sides with four gateways on four directions.
