Like the historic town of Srinagar, Baramulla is yet another significant town located on the banks of River Jhelum. The principal occupation of the people for many generations has been that of fruit business and therefore the area around the town is seen dotted with many sprawling apple orchards. A number of significant religious places for both Hindus and Muslims are seen in and around the town. |

इमारत/संरचना/स्थल का विवरण |
The mosque is based on a square plan with an area of about 5000sft 80ft each side and is representative of monumental wooden architecture of Kashmir. The property is located within its own compound which has a number of chinars. The interiors consist of a series of robust, fluted wooden columns that support the heavy, three-tiered roof over the mosque. It has a soaring height which is highlighted by a double height with a decorative, flat wooden ceiling. The main entrance to the building is on the eastern side leading into a square double height chamber. A heavily carved doorway on the eastern face leads to the main prayer hall. The mosque is surmounted by a pyramidal roof with an octagonal brangh pavilion covered with a spire The building exists in an excessively modified state presently. |

There are various ornamental details emphasizing the building. The entrance door has a heavily carved architrave but the door itself is a recent addition. The deodar wood columns are tall, fluted and has brackets at four sides which support the wooden beams of the ceiling. The traditional cheri jebi ceiling is also carved, the beam sides are carved with floral motifs. The mimbar is highlighted by cusped arch, decorative niches and naqashi. The eaves board and the pendants at the roof corners are also ornamental in quality. The column-beam arrangement divides the ceiling into a square grid with the central square portion comprising wooden corbelled ceiling similar to the ancient stone temple ceilings of Kashmir. |
