Skinner first served the Marathas , but eventually joined the British and raised a regiment known as skinner s Horse. Hindu college was located here until it moved to its current premises, North Campus. |

The heritage building which Col. James Skinner had used as residence was built under the European supervision in mid 19th century CE. It was close to the northern walls of historic city of Shahjahanabad. The palatial estate of skinner is now lost in a cluster of commercial spaces, old shops and many other unauthorized construction.It had main building and many other auxiliary structures in a large courtyard.Now only few traces of the original architecture exist.The grand gateway is one of the few remnants .The pointed arch opening is superimposed by multi-cusped arch.This gateway had a superstucture which was collapsed few years ago.The stone brackets are visible and support the projected chhajja. The original wooden doors are still attached to the gateway.This gateway leads to the large courtyard.The significant courtyard once had a marble platform and marble flooring.The skinner s house is an important built heritage and has great historical and architectural significance. |

The structure is made up of bricks and plastered with cement. The entrance has a big door made up of wood with iron spikes on it. Red sandstone is used in the lintel level and cornice. |
