History / इतिहास
Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास
Sheikh Salahuddin was a saint of Sohrawardia sect, and disciple of Shaikh Sadruddin, the son and successor of Shaikh Bahauddin of Multan. He lived in the early fourteenth century and was a contemporary of the saint Nasiruddin Mahmud Chiragh-e-Delhi. The tomb was built in AD 1340, lies north of Chiragh-e-Delhi and is far less popular than his contemporaries, but it is still important. His uniqueness was that he never held back and protests the atrocities of Sultan Mohammad-bin-Tughlaq very vociferously. The Shaikh died in 1339-40 A.D.

Description of Building/ Structure/Site
इमारत/संरचना/स्थल का विवरण
The domed tomb is square in plan and measures 7.25 sq. m. It was initially standing on a plinth which is now almost level with the adjoining ground. The superstructure is supported by 12 local grey stone pillars with entablature which have minimally carved capitals. The hemispherical plastered dome springs from a high neck octagonal drum which itself is decorated with kangura battlements in incised plaster and topped by a small stone finial. A dilapidated sandstone chajja runs all around the building, over which is a frieze of local stone. There are two graves in the center surrounded by a low brick built enclosure. The graves together with the tomb are whitewashed.
