The huge strikingly beautiful gateway, constructed from stone ashlar masonry layered with slabs of local grey stone and red sandstone inlaid with minute traces of flawless white marble. It has a pointed arch over which there is a small arched opening and has a vaulted roof. Externally it is decorated with white circular marble medallions on its spandrels. The doorway is much recessed from the outer face. It is a double-storeyed building; the chamber has been made on both sides. The walls are internally relieved by arched panels. The interior of the building is decorated with arched niches and squinches. There are window-like openings on the north and south and a staircase leading to the roof from the south-east corner. |
