It lies in area between the flood plain of river Yamuna and Delhi Ridge. Delhi Ridge is a Northern extension of ancient Aravalli Range.

This iconic building dates back to 1890 and it was designed by Samuel Swinton Jacob, the chief engineer of Jaipur State, who was also known for incorporating Indian-Islamic architectural characteristics with European Neo-Classical and Gothic Revival styles. There is a plaque at the entrance which states To the glory of God and for the advancement of sound learning and religious education. ST Stephen s College, Delhi. This stone was laid by Sir Charles, A. Elliot, and K.C.S.I. on Friday, 11th April 1890 .

The remarkable building constructed on a rectangular plan. The two-storeyed edifice is entered through a majestic porch. Porch adorns with a hemispherical dome rising from an octagonal drum. Both the ground and first floor have arched colonnades. There is a Chajja running all around, over which is a frieze of local stone. On the northern corner of the building are semi-octagonal turrets which have octagonal domed pavilions at first-floor level. There are red sandstone battlements and ornamentation on the underside of the dome made in incised plaster. Engravings on sandstone and semi-octagonal turrets beautify this edifice.

The building is constructed of rubble and semi dressed local stone. Iron reinforcement has been used for the dome and the beams. Red sandstone has been used as structural material for roofing. Doors and windows are made of wood and glass.
