The four Kamans Charkaman , were built during the reign of sultan Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah. These four lofty arches were built after the completion of Charminar in 1591 A.D. The four arches are separated from their center be about 375 feet and the space between any two arches facing each other is 750 feet. Each arch is 60 feet high and 36 feet wide at the base and 6 feet in thickness. Each arch is known by a different name. The northern arch- Machli Kaman The Southern arch Charminar arch. The eastern arch- Kali keman or Kaman of Shambhoo pershad. The western arch- Kaman sher dil. The western arch was the most important arch during the Qutub shahi period. The shutters were made of ebony and sandal wood, studied with nails of gold and inlaid with precious stones. from the arch hung a cloth of gold for the privacy of the palace. The area between the arches is squar in shape and was called the Jilu Khana Guard s square , in the center of which is Gulzar hauz Char-Su-Ka-Hauz . |
