Sopore, a historic town of north Kashmir was founded by Suyya an able engineer of King Avantivarman in 880 AD and was named Suyya-pur. Sopore is another riverfront town spread out linearly on both the banks of River Jhelum. The principal occupation of local population is farming and tending fruit orchards. Much like the Srinagar city, Sopore town is abounded with wooden vernacular buildings. The town is known for its apple and grain productivity and as such still bears a number of granaries and orchards. |

The building has a high plinth which houses a basement. Apart from the basement the building has three floors. The entrance of the building is through a centrally located, projecting porch. The ground floor comprises four rooms placed symmetrically on either side of the corridor. The corridor leads to the staircase leading to the upper floors. The first floor has three rooms, one large and two smaller on either side of the centrally located corridor. The second floor has a hall with an attached kitchen. The building has wooden dubs projecting from the second floor, on all sides of the building. The building has been recently pointed with cement from outside. |

The materials used in the construction of this building include burnt bricks, cement mortar, wooden door window, frames and panels. The outer face of the building is done in burnt bricks in cement pointing. The building has a central, continuous dub, running the length of the second floor. Internally the building is cement plastered in the ground floor, while as the first and the second floor walls are plastered in mud. The ceiling of the building comprises wooden beams running through and through. The dubs of the building consist of ornamental pinjrakari trellis and fret work. |
