| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | The building was originally built by Ghulam Lassa Marzi who was in timber business. Presently the building belongs to Farooq Ahmad who is working as a technician in health service department and bought the building from the original owners a few years ago. |

Sopore, a historic town of north Kashmir was founded by Suyya an able engineer of King Avantivarman in 880 AD and was named Suyya-pur. Sopore is another riverfront town spread out linearly on both the banks of River Jhelum. The principal occupation of local population is farming and tending fruit orchards. Much like the Srinagar city, Sopore town is abounded with wooden vernacular buildings. The town is known for its apple and grain productivity and as such still bears a number of granaries and orchards. |

The building consists of three floors and has a central entrance with six rooms in the ground floor, six in the first and a hall in the second floor. The building has arched windows on the principal facades. However, the shorter faces have smaller windows. The building has two wooden dubs on the front fa ade projecting from the second floor. The building also has a wooden dub projecting from the second floor, on the left side, which runs through the entire length of the left side. |

The principal materials used in the construction of the building are stone, maharaji brick and wood, with mud mortar. The structural system of the building comprises load bearing masonry piers with wooden floor joists, the gap taq in between the piers being infilled with either a window or masonry. The building facade comprises rectangular, pointed as well as shoulder arched window openings. The windows opening are emphasized by a course of projecting, moulded brickwork as well as decorative brick motifs. Two rectangular dubs project out from second floor, on the main facade and are richly decorated with carved wooden panels and fascia. Floor lines are emphasized by exposed wooden runners and floor joists. The ceiling of the rooms comprises of exposed wooden joist. Internally the walls are mud plastered and the floors are covered with sathrun mud flooring in most of the rooms, barring the ground floor which has been cemented, partially. The building is covered with a traditional pitched roof comprising CGI sheets. The building retains beautiful pinjrakari work in many of its window shutters and some of the window frames are embellished with decorative, carved wooden architraves. |
