| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | The building was constructed by Mohammad Maqbool Bhat who was a businessman fruits . Presently the building is owned by Ghulam Nabi Bhat, successor of Mohammad Maqbool Bhat. Ghulam Nabi Bhat is continuing his father s fruit business. |

Sopore, a historic town of north Kashmir was founded by Suyya an able engineer of King Avantivarman in 880 AD and was named Suyya-pur. Sopore is another riverfront town spread out linearly on both the banks of River Jhelum. The principal occupation of local population is farming and tending fruit orchards. Much like the Srinagar city, Sopore town is abounded with wooden vernacular buildings. The town is known for its apple and grain productivity and as such still bears a number of granaries and orchards. |

The property has a defined rectilinear layout and comprises three floors with a central entrance. The layout consists of a central staircase lobby with rooms on its either side. The ground floor has four rooms, the first floor has four rooms and the second floor has three rooms. The second floor of the building has a wooden dub running along the full length of the floor. |

The principal materials used in the construction of the building are stone, brick kiln baked as well as sun dried and wood, with mud mortar. The structural system of the building comprises load bearing brick walls with wooden floor joists. The building facade comprises rectangular window frames within rectangular or arched masonry openings, the space in between the wooden frame and the arch again being filled in with masonry in the latter case. A centrally located linear wooden dub projects from the second floor over the main entrance door, dominating the building fa ade. Another dub is located on the northern facade. Both the dubs have intricately carved pinjarakari panels. Floor lines are emphasized by exposed wooden runners and joists. The ceiling of the rooms comprises of exposed wooden joist and planks, while one of the rooms is said to have khatamband ceiling. Internally the walls are mud plastered and the floors are covered with sathrun mud flooring in most of the rooms. The building is covered with a traditional pitched roof comprising CGI sheets.. The building has ornamental hangings, from the roof corner. |
