Sopore, a historic town of north Kashmir was founded by Suyya an able engineer of King Avantivarman in 880 AD and was named Suyya-pur. Sopore is another riverfront town spread out linearly on both the banks of River Jhelum. The principal occupation of local population is farming and tending fruit orchards. Much like the Srinagar city, Sopore town is abounded with wooden vernacular buildings. The town is known for its apple and grain productivity and as such still bears a number of granaries and orchards. |

The building consists of three floors with a central entrance over which projects the central dub in the first and the second floor. The ground floor has four rooms, and the first floor consists of four rooms whereas the second floor has a large hall. The dub of the building exhibits trellis work. The building has arched windows on all the facades of the building. |

The materials used in the construction of this building include burnt bricks, lime mortar, timber for doors, windows, frames and panels. Internally the walls are mud plastered. The ceiling of the building comprises wooden beams running through and through. The ceiling also consists of khatambandh work in the some rooms. The brickwork is left exposed on the outside and has been finished with lime pointing. |
