| History / इतिहास | |
| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | One of the most prominent places of worship in the town of Reasi, the Kalika Devi Temple is said to be about three hundred years old. The Kalika is one of the many manifestations of Goddess Maha Kali. The locals believe that one Pandit Jagat Ram Sharma dreamed of Kalika Devi and gave a sign of her presence in the form of a pindi stone buried underground on this hill. On excavating the area, the pindi was found and thereafter, a small temple was constructed on the hill and Pandit Jagat Ram Sharma became its caretaker. The local people have contributed to the development of this temple. Devotees visit the temple in large numbers during the days of Navratri. |
| Local / Traditional description associated with Built Heritage / Site निर्मित धरोहर / स्थल से सम्बंधित स्थानीय/ परम्परागत विवरण |
The town of Reasi is largely an agrarian based economy, drained by the mighty Chenab River, and home to many important historical events. Dominated by the robust Bhimgarh Fort, the town is one of the oldest in the state of Jammu and Kashmir and was the seat of the erstwhile Bhimgarh State, and is said to have been established by Raja Bhim Dev somewhere in the 8th century. The town still has strong reminders of its ancient past in the form of little known temples like Bhimsen Devta. |
