| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | According to the present owners, the property belonged to Raja Moti Singh, and was built for Bua Prem Dasi. The building is said to have had at least twenty rooms originally and was of a highly decorative quality. |

The area was one of the most affected ones during the Indian partition of 1947 and was badly destroyed in the earthquake of 2005. These events have therefore left a permanent and prominent impression on the people and also the urban fabric of the area and add, in unique ways, to the cultural essence of the place. |

The building is laid out in the form of a square open courtyard. The entrance to the building is through a centrally located, highly ornamental, gateway. The front fa ade comprises two floors most of the first floor having collapsed and the rest of the building is single storey. The central courtyard is surrounded by a colonnaded verandah which gives way to the rooms on the ground floor. The first floor is accessed by a corner staircase which leads to the first floor. Only 1 4th of the floor area on the first floor was occupied by rooms which were more elaborately decorated than the ones on the ground floor. The remaining area was used as terrace. The surviving portions of the ceiling reveal exquisite papier-mache work. The room over the entrance gateway was the most decorative in quality with a bay jharokha window and mirror-work on walls. |

The main building material used in the construction of the building is lakhori small bricks and wood. Wood has been used for the construction of ceiling and wooden joists. The walls on the inside are all plastered in lime and have araish work similar to stucco. The outer surface of the walls has been left exposed to display the moulding work done in brick. These consist of wall pilasters set between arched opening profiles. The rooms inside are replete with arched niches, flanked by decorative medallions. The entrance has been exquisitely detailed in western Indian architectural style. |
