| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | Due to Muslim incursions, the famous headquaters office of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam had to be shifted from Kanchi to Kumbakonam in 1743, during the reign of the Maratha ruler Pratap Singh at Tanjavur. The headquaters of the Kanchi Mutt remained at Kumbakonam for over 100 years before being finally shifted back to Kanchi. The original building at the site existed during the Vijayanagar period and it seems to have been remodelled and rebuilt by the Marathas 18th-19th Century . |

The front tinnai is vault-roofed and has pillars with bracket figurines portraying the inverted lotus bud. In the interior of the building there are several pillars, linked by ogee arches at the top. Some portions are flat-roofed and have granite pillars. |
