The temple has two Gopurams, the bigger gopuram is 147feet high and is an imposing structure of 12 storeys. Several huge pillared Mandapas lead to the main sanctum. The pillars have intricate carvings on them. The temple possesses two large elaborately carved wooden chariots. The sculptures in the gopurams display various dance postures as described in Bharata s Natyasastra . The architectural and sculptural features are definitely of the Late Chola period. |
