The tank is also called Kanya Tirtha. It is belived that the tank contains a number of other tirthas in the form of wells. Appar the famous Tamil saint, refers to the Godavari Tirtha in the Mahamakam tank. |

The tank is quadrangular in shape and granite steps leading to the water are found on all the four sides of the tank. The tank is surrounded by 16 picturesque mandapas and covers an area of 20acres. Each of the mandapa is small and has pillars at the four corners and an ornate Maratha sikara is found atop.At the centre of the tank, there is a pillar like structure made of stone and bricks.This structure is used during the Teppam. |
