According to legend, the presiding deity of this temple i.e. Munisvara guarded the palm tree bearing gold fruits which once stood in the vicinity. This deity is also regarded as the tutelary deity of Pudukkottai town. The deit's walkway across the town is still clearly specified by some people. Obstruction of this route by erecting structures is considered as inauspicious. |
