| Description of Building/ Structure/Site
इमारत/संरचना/स्थल का विवरण |
Artefacts were noted on the surface in association with a ferricrete gravel with indurated duricrust blocks, and cobble-boulder sized clasts. This is around 1.5 m thick and rests on Sriperumbudur shales. Acheulian artefacts erode out of this and occur on the surface as well, while Middle Palaeolithic artefacts occur on the surface. Artefacts are noted across the entire area in associated with colluvial gravels. The density is around 3-4 sq.m. The presence of vertically embedded artefacts are important here. At a distance of 3 km to the south of this area, a well section was studied at Lingammanaidupalli, on the road to Kammavaripalayam, the bedrock comprised shale capped by 2 m of ferricretes. This is totally absent on the eastern wall of the well. This is capped by 2 m of top soil. See Pappu 2001 |
