The stratigraphic sequence comprises a bedrock of Sriperumbudur shales capped by a laterite profile. Local facies variation is considerable with a ferricrete gravel cutting through the laterites at several locations and which constitutes the artefact horizon. The site is extensively quarried. Microliths occur on the surface, while the ferricrete facies bears Lower to Middle Palaeolithic artefacts. In some sections a ferricrete gravel rested directly on a Cenozoic laterite profile. |
