| Description of Building/ Structure/Site
इमारत/संरचना/स्थल का विवरण |
The massive and magnificent church is a unique example of architectural sensibility. It resembles a fort from outside. The exterior of the church is a straight lined structure which is made up of unadorned brick walls carefully dotted with few small windows. Buttresses and parapet are the other architectural elements giving it a look of the fort. The main body of the church and tall tower are built up of locally made red bricks whereas the plinth is made up of stone. On the western side it has unique multi-layered semi-circular arched gateway and it softens the massiveness of the structure. The interior of the church is like a Basilica and has high circular dome and curved arches up-to the vaulted roof. The altar is oriented at the east end symbolizing rising of the Christ. Certainly the church was a modern structure of that time and probably the architect Mr. Shoo-smith drew the inspiration from contemporary expressionism particularly expressionist architecture which was developed between 1910 and 1924. |
