| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | It is a Shia masjid founded by Nawab Hamid Ali Khan ,who was the Prime Minister of Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah II. It is the site from where the procession of Muharram starts every year. There are several majlis means religious sermons, friday & Eid prayers conducted in Shia Jama masjid. |

The late Mughal period mosque is entered through a majestic gateway. The huge gateway leads to a flight of stairs which further leads towards the courtyard where the mosque is situated.The facade of the grand gateway has a central multi-cusped arched opening which is flanked by smaller arched openings on either sides.The multi-cusped entrance is decorated with floral patterns on the spandrels. Above it there is a typical Rajasthani style jharokha.Parapet of the sidewalls is adorned with the Kangoora patterns.There are two minarets on the top of the central arched opening and two majestic turrets topped with domed pavilions on either side of the central arched opening.The courtyard has marble flooring which is a later period renovation work.The mosque is raised on a rectangular high platform.The facade of the mosque has multi-cusped arched gateway.The main prayer hall of the mosque is quite modest.It is built in Indo-Persian style.The salient features are arched openings,ornate columns,domes,pavilions,Chhatris,fluted ornate columns,alcoves,latticed screens,geometric and floral engravings and others. The historic mosque shows features based on those of earlier Mughal buildings and they are uniquely combined here and a remarkable late Mughal period structure. |

The facade of the structure is made up of white marble. The wall of the structure is made up of bricks and plastered with cement. The dome and the roof are made up of red sandstone. The walls are paved with tiles and painted with distemper paint. |
