| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | The original owner of the building was Ghulam Mohammad Balti who was an employee with the revenue department arzinawees and has constructed this building in the mid 20thcentury. Presently the building is owned by Haji Noor Mohammad Bhat who is a labourer by profession. |

Sopore, a historic town of north Kashmir was founded by Suyya an able engineer of King Avantivarman in 880 AD and was named Suyya-pur. Sopore is another riverfront town spread out linearly on both the banks of River Jhelum. The principal occupation of local population is farming and tending fruit orchards. Much like the Srinagar city, Sopore town is abounded with wooden vernacular buildings. The town is known for its apple and grain productivity and as such still bears a number of granaries and orchards. |

The building comprises three floors with a central entrance .The ground floor has three rooms ,one hall on one side of the corridor and two rooms on the other side. The same thing is repeated in the first floor .The second floor has a big hall. The building has a large wooden dub projecting from the centre of the second floor. The dub is supported by the wooden brackets. The building has arched windows in the first floor. |

The principal materials used in the construction of the building are stone, brick kiln baked as well as sun dried and wood, with mud mortar. The structural system of the building comprises load bearing brick walls with wooden floor joists. The building facade comprises rectangular window frames within rectangular or segmental arched masonry openings, the space in between the wooden frame and the arch again being filled in with masonry in the latter case. On the southern fa ade a centrally located dub projects from the second floor over the main entrance door. Floor lines are emphasized by exposed wooden runners and joists. The ceiling of the rooms comprises of exposed wooden joist and planks. Internally the walls are mud plastered and the floors are covered with sathrun mud flooring in most of the rooms. The building is covered with a traditional pitched roof comprising CGI sheets. The ground floor of the building has been recently plastered with cement. |
