| History / इतिहास | |
| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | It is said that that an ascetic, Baba Bhuri Nath, discovered a Shiv Ling while grazing his cattle, under the dense vegetation of the spot where the present temple is located and began praying here. Later, with the monetary help of the locals a temple was constructed on the very spot. The self-emanating form of Shiva is generally called Aap Shambhu and explains the name of the Temple. |
| Local / Traditional description associated with Built Heritage / Site निर्मित धरोहर / स्थल से सम्बंधित स्थानीय/ परम्परागत विवरण |
The town of Reasi is largely an agrarian based economy, drained by the mighty Chenab River, and home to many important historical events. Dominated by the robust Bhimgarh Fort, the town is one of the oldest in the state of Jammu and Kashmir and was the seat of the erstwhile Bhimgarh State, and is said to have been established by Raja Bhim Dev somewhere in the 8th century. The town still has strong reminders of its ancient past in the form of little known temples like Bhimsen Devta. The various architectural styles speak of the towns many historical layers. Architecturally and culturally, the town is one of the richest but less explored regions of Jammu and Kashmir. |
