| History / इतिहास | |
| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | According to local sources the building, which originally served as an Oprah House, was constructed in the late 19th century. Locals recall many significant performances having been held here until 1947, after which it steadily went into decline. It was briefly used by the Food and Supplies department for storage purposes before being converted to Town Hall and partly to Municipality Office. The earthquake of 2005 caused immense damage to the building fabric and led to vacating it temporarily. |
| Local / Traditional description associated with Built Heritage / Site निर्मित धरोहर / स्थल से सम्बंधित स्थानीय/ परम्परागत विवरण |
The area was one of the most affected ones during the Indian partition of 1947 and was badly destroyed in the earthquake of 2005. These events have therefore left a permanent and prominent impression on the people and also the urban fabric of the area and add, in unique ways, to the cultural essence of the place. |

| Description of Building/ Structure/Site
इमारत/संरचना/स्थल का विवरण |
The building displays exquisite spatial and decorative qualities. The main highlight of which is the large hall with soaring papier mache ceiling and series of jharokas meant to be used by ladies overlooking the sprawling hall. The building is indisputably monumental in quality and contributes significantly to the fast depleting heritage resources of the region. |
