The area was one of the most affected ones during the Indian partition of 1947 and was badly destroyed in the earthquake of 2005. These events have therefore left a permanent and prominent impression on the people and also the urban fabric of the area and add, in unique ways, to the cultural essence of the place. |

The building is sprawling with a centrally located entrance portico which projects out from the face of the building in the form of a half octagon. The portico is arcaded and leads to symmetrically arranged rooms in the ground floor. The central core lifts on the first floor like an octagonal tower. The first floor consists of a front verandah and equal number of rooms as in the ground floor. |

The main material consists of timber, brick and mud. While the walls are constructed in brick masonry, the screens and windows are in timber. Mud has been used for plastering the inner and outer surfaces of the house. |
