| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | The property was built prior to the 1947 partition by Mian Basant Singh who was a governor during the Dogra rule. In the early 1960s the property was bought by Makhan Singh, who is also the present owner. |

The area was one of the most affected ones during the Indian partition of 1947 and was badly destroyed in the earthquake of 2005. These events have therefore left a permanent and prominent impression on the people and also the urban fabric of the area and add, in unique ways, to the cultural essence of the place. |

The sprawling house has two floors, with the main entrance is located at one extreme end of the building. A series of rooms are accessed from the foyer in the ground floor. The first floor consists of a large hall and a large family kitchen adjoining it. The front fa ade of the building contains interesting features like wooden dubs and cusped arches around the windows. There are about 18 rooms overall in the building. |

The building is constructed in lakhori bricks with high levels of embellishments on its facades and columns. Both the outer and inner surfaces of the walls are plastered in lime and are decorated with frescoes naqashi in the interiors. The second floor front fa ade is adorned with traditional bay windows almost similar to the oriel windows or jharokas. The building is covered with sloping roof with tin roof and has a series of dormers lining it. |
