| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | The temple was built in 1901 Vikrami which corresponds to the mid 1840s of the Christian calendar. It was built by Kanhaiya Lal Jamadar a jamadar janitor at the court of Raja Poonch. After the temple was built, it was donated to a certain Isher family and has been in their possession since then. The Isher family is local purohits or priests. |

The area was one of the most affected ones during the Indian partition of 1947 and was badly destroyed in the earthquake of 2005. These events have therefore made a permanent and prominent impression on the people and also the urban fabric of the area and add, in unique ways, to the cultural essence of the place. The temple complex being one of the oldest is the most revered by the local community. |

The temple building consists of two levels a lower or basement level and the upper temple sanatorium level. The basement comprises residential rooms on the front and cattle shed in the rear. The upper level is accessed by a flight of steps and opens out onto an open terrace, in the middle of which is located the temple. The plan of the temple is typical, with the central chamber consisting of the garba-griha and the parikrama circumambulator around it. The parikrama is arcaded with elaborately decorated columns. The temple is surmounted by a pyramidal roof covered with tin sheets. |

The basement of the building, which also forms the base of the temple, is constructed brick masonry and consists of series of vaults. The wall thickness is at least 3ft. The temple structure which rests on this base is also constructed in brick masonry. The fa ade is ornamented with floral relief patterns and each of the four corners of the temple has a gilded slender corner pilaster. The wall faces have decorative arched profiles. |
