Like the historic town of Srinagar, Baramulla is yet another significant town located on the banks of River Jhelum. The principal occupation of the people for many generations has been that of fruit business and therefore the area around the town is seen dotted with many sprawling apple orchards. A number of significant religious places for both Hindus and Muslims are seen in and around the town. |

This house represents a typical traditional Kashmiri architectural style, having a centrally located entrance. The entrance door has beautifully carved wooden frame and panels. The door frame is surrounded by decorative brick work. The building is built in stone blocks with brick surrounds around window door openings. The building has two wooden decorative fascias separating the floors from each other. The building has a double pitched roof. The building has three floors and an attic. The ground floor has four rooms arranged symmetrically on either side of a centrally placed staircase, located at the end of the corridor. The first floor has five rooms, second floor has four rooms and the attic floor has a substantial hall. The third floor and the attic have a continuous wooden dub placed in the centre. |

The principal materials used in the construction of this building include devri stone blocks, fired bricks, mud plaster for inner surfaces of the walls, wooden doors and window panels. The ceiling comprises wooden beams running through and through. The floor is also covered with mud sethrun in the ground floor. The upper floors have wooden flooring. The continuous wooden fascias have protruding dentils all along the length. |
