Dr. K. D. Banerjee of Prehistory Branch of the Survey assisted H. N. Jaiswal N. Gandhi , S. V. Sutaone and P. M. Bhope, excavated a Stone Age site at Battalavallam in Taluk Satyavedu. The excavation revealed a peneplain of completely terized Sriperumbudur shale which was found to have been impregnated with rruginous solotion, resulting in an extremely hard vesicular from. The surface of the terite showed disconformity, over which lay a deposit of detrital laterite. The latter eposit contained tools of an earlier industry, presumably washed down along with the terite, as also of an industry belonging to the transitional phase between the Middle terite, as also of an industry belonging to the transitional phase between the Middle and Late Stone Age horizons. The latter was identified by Shri B.B. Lal, Director eneral of the Survey, who halped in the isolation of this industry |
