Exploration at seven places in the town confirmed that the habitation was from the neolithic to the modern times with occasional break.The excavation was conducted by the then, Eastern Circle of the Archaeological Survey of India. |

The archaeological findings includes neolithic celts, ill-fired pottery, terracotta, coins, sprinkler and rouletted ware, that is believed to be originated from Rome. A brick-built stepped tank, ring well, a soak-pit and agate beads were retrieved from the excavation |
