An area of 25 sq km in the hills surrounding the village was surveyed. The maximum number of artefacts were noted at a distance of 1 km from the village on the northwest slope of the hill. It was noted that the density of tools was low 0.02 sq m , possibly owing to poor visibility resulting from dense vegetation and artefacts were randomly dispersed over the region surveyed. The maximum artefact concentration is near a small stream, along which the Irula settlement is also located. The site is 100 m from a natural spring, now deepened to form a well and 0.5 km from a perennial jungle spring. Here, artefacts occur in clusters on the surface of weathered bedrock comprising the Satyavedu formation 12 m2 . |
